In 1898, Andrew H. Foss, a 22-year-old Norwegian immigrant began designing and building railroad depots throughout southeastern Minnesota. From that start, FEH Associates Inc. has grown into one of the region’s longest operating Architecture | Structural Engineering | Interiors firms. Despite the economic impact of the Depression years, FEH gained a foothold as a premier designer of educational facilities. That distinction continues as a mainstay of FEH’s professional services. FEH remains a service based firm that has expanded its professional design services to a wide range of public use facilities, including municipal/civic, libraries, public safety, corporate/commercial, government/military, recreation, museum, worship facilities and education including PreK-12 and higher education levels. Our Sioux City office opened in 1958 and continues as the longest operating architectural/engineering firm in Sioux City.
In 1979, Foss Engelstad Heil, Inc., acquired an interest in the Des Moines, Iowa, architectural firm of Payne, Champion, Bernabe, Inc. and in November 1982, the two firms merged as FEH Associates Inc. In 2011, FEH broadened it’s base by opening two new offices, one in Dubuque, Iowa and the other in Delafield, Wisconsin. These new offices give FEH the opportunity to reach across the state of Iowa and into Illinois, Wisconsin and other surrounding states.
